| Abstract: | This is as special section consisting of three articles on HDTV (High Definition Television). The authors discuss the political and industrial background, where the three regions involved -Japan, Europe and the US- are arguing about the standards. In Japan HDTV is called Hi-Vision. Themes like the future of HDTV markets and programme production costs are analysed with the conclusion that it will after all become a central medium in the 21st century. |
