Abstract:Biotope (hereafter as: b-t./b-ts.) mapping (here as: b-t-m-g.) is an important tool for urban management and planning and of importance for the protection of b-ts. for future generations. This study deals with the b-ts. of Antalya city, Turkey. The city which has faced to a great population pressure due to tourism developments and immigration during the last decades. The selective b-t-m-g. method was used and major b-t. sites were determined, assisted with field verifications. The majority of b-ts. in Antalya city are shown to be very sensitive or sensitive. It is concluded that insufficient legislation, the lack of an ecological urban planning approach and poor urban management are the most important reasons for today's pressures on urban b-ts. in Turkey.
