| Abstract: | The purpose of the paper is to analyse whether, since the mid-1970s, European integration has been pursued at the expense of world integration or if the Community has become increasingly integrated in the world economy. It focuses on manufactures (disaggregated into 101 industries), the four largest member countries, namely France,Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom, and relies on a new databank developed by the Statistical Office of the Community. Contrary to what might have been expected, extra-Community import has risen more rapidly than import from partner countries. |
