| Abstract: | Many of the wars this century were about oil, but wars of the next century will be over water - announced Ismail Serageldin, vice president at the World Bank. It made headlines across the western world, but to much of the globe it was old news. Chronic water shortages affect 40% of the world's population, spread across 80 nations - and with demand for water increasing at 2.3% annually (doubling every 21 years) the crisis is deepening. Underlying the looming crisis is population growth in the world. |
