| Abstract: | The European Communities (or EC) Directive on the processing of personal data comes into force on October, 1998. This Directive will give employees a right of access to data help about them. In addition, it allows them to object to its processing in certain circumstances, and also to request its correction or its erasure if the data is unlawfully held or if it is inaccurate. In the article, the provisions of the Directive are reviewed, the state of play regarding implementation in selected member states is looked at, and the provisions of the draft UK implementing legislation is examined. |
