Abstract:In this brief article the author outlines several of the fundamental issues and associated practices that have proven to be useful and effective in supporting, advancing, and promoting industrially relevant research at universities. The role of teaching and research in all universities is also an issue that can affect the long-term questions associated with greater societal goals. University research often has a follow-on consequence that is of industrial relevance.
