Abstract:This article examines the businesses evolution of electronic commerce in the U.S. B-to-C firms have to focus on one of three approaches: catalog retailing with Internet selling operations, "bricks and clicks" integration, and pure-plays offering customer satisfaction. B-to-B firms must adjust to commoditization, deal with price competition, and use private and consortium Net exchanges efficiently. The most important survisors will be those with sound business strategies.
