Abstract: | This article extends previous research on network characteristics (hereafter as: net-char.) and proposes a theoretical model which presents net-char. as a function of the resources available to the firm. The elements of the model are following: strategy content (organizational diversity) and strategy context (ownership, governance, and accountability). Network evolution through time is modelled as a function of industry growth and strategy content and contenxt. The model is tested analyzing the British cotton textile industry in the period 1830-1980. In addition, the impact of net-char. on strategic change in a declining industry is examined. |
