Abstract:Ghana, like other countries in the Third World, is making efforts to develop comprehensive national energy plans. Maximizing the development of Ghana's energy resources is a part of its economic development. The article describes the energy situation in the country, considering the disparate nature of energy planning and its effects on the energy planning process in the past. The importance of a national institute solely charged with formulating and coordinating an energy strategy is emphasized. The broad rationale underlying integrated energy planning is the need for a flexible and continuous energy strategy that will promote the best use of energy resources in order to further socio-economic development.
