Abstract:This report assesses the market for short- to medium-term savings products, loosely defined as those offering a return within a five-year term. Savings products are differentiated from investment-based products principally by the fact that the former at least guarantee to return capital, whereas most investment products cannot do this. In this basic sense, then, savings products are "risk-free", although interest rates are consequently far lower than those that can be realised through more speculative investment products.
