Abstract:There was a time when savings plan administrators could help employees put some money on the bank and then forget about it until the employee retired. Today, administrators must deal with changing investment strategies, employees who borrow against their savings, complicated government regulation, high turnover and other saving plan perils. Four general categories that make up plan administration are outlined: service to employees; keeping records for individual employee accounts; managing the plan's investments; complying with federal and state regulations. It is shown how personal computers can be used to support savings administration. The application of an outside administrator is reviewed.
