Abstract:In 1996, Shanghai's two major price indexes fell again obviously compared with last year's. The consumer price index of Shanghai's residents was 109.2, an decrease of 9.5 percentage points over last year. The retail price index was 105.0, an decrease of 8.0 personage point and the target of controlling the range of retail price increase at 10% was reached successfully. The said consumer price index was 0.1 personage point below the average index of the 35 large and medium-sized cities in the country, ranking seventeenth. It was at a middle level.
