| Abstract: | The "European Works Council" has been one of the most prominent issues in European industrial relations of recent years. The Commission has adopted a new proposal for an EC Directive on informing and consulting employees in multinationals. The term "European Works Council" has been abandoned and replaced with information and consultation "mechanisms", "procedures" and "structures". The latest developments in what is undoubtedly 1994's highest profile issue in European industrial relations are reported. Some objections to the Commission's move are also mentioned. |
