Abstract:For a long time Switzerland has been the only country in Europe having no statutory form of employee participation. As a part of the employment law harmonisation related to the aborted plan to join the European Economic Area, recently a new legislation has come into force providing for workers' delegations in companies of the private sector with at least 50 workers. The delegations have participation rights in the areas of collective redundancies, transfers of undertakings, health and safety, and information rights. The law is in harmony with the EC legislation.
