Abstract:In this paper, modeled are the determinants of exporting (henceforth as: exp-g.), both in terms of export (as: exp.) propensity and exp. intensity, stressing especially on the importance of absorptive capacity (here as: abs-cap.) and the endogenous link btw. exp-g. and undertaking R&D. Based on a merged dataset of the 2001 Community Innovation Survey and the 2000 Annual Respondents Database for the U.K., the results suggest establishment size playing a fundamental role in explaining exp-g. Meanwhile, together with other factors, undertaking R&D activities and having greater abs-cap. significantly reduce entry barriers into export markets, having controlled for self-selectivity into exp-g. etc.
