Abstract: | For countries with limited funds or nonconvertible currencies, countertrade provides an established trading vehicle. There are several types of countertrade arrangements, including the following: counterpurchase, barter, offsets, coproduction, and compensation. Several examples illustrate that countertrade is a way of doing business and thinking about business that raises the concept of reciprocity to a new level of importance. The relationship between trading partners is critical, taking on ever greater importance as less cash for products is available and as more barter takes place. |
