Abstract:High-technology ventures have difficulty in obtaining both the investment resources they require for funding R and D and production, and the human resources they need in the form of experienced managers. The experience of three UK firms is explored. All three were acquired by German companies investing in Britain in order to obtain a valuable technology or product, reap the benefits of lower labour costs and improve access to overseas markets as long-term investments. In each case, acquisition after the failure of entrepreneurial firm involved a process of post-crisis adjustment followed by recovery and the gradual emergence of a satisfactory modus vivendi as a basis for the achievement of synergy.
