Abstract: | The aim of this paper is to develop a rational model to assist managers in setting corporate goals. It raises fundamental questions on how business performance is assessed and leads to some recommendations on how to limit the "short termism" which appears to handicap so many Western companies competing internationally. Several factors stimulate a reassessment of corporate goal setting and conventional measures of business performance. |
