Abstract:Recent research on strategic decision-making and strategic change challenges the view that decision outcomes are the product of rational choice. Allison's classification scheme is used to categorize recent research on strategic decision in three different perspectives. Discussions of research on cognitive, organizational and political perspectives are followed by a discussion showing how these three perspectives can deal with strategic decisions and the strategic change process. A framework is recommended to discuss the ways in which environmental change affects top managers' cognition and how these influence strategic change.
