Abstract: | An in-company approach to improving the competence of middle managers and starting up a constructive problem-sharing and solving process is described. A number of questions on training and application of learning to the job are answered and practical suggestions are offered for improving the effectiveness of management development. The organizational background is a company which has been in the diesel engine business for over 100 years, having been acquired by a multinational company 15 years ago. The theoretical framework is similar in concept to Lewin's classical model of learning. Guidelines are offered for designing development programs aimed at transfer of learning and organizational support. |
