Abstract:Long-term compensation attempts to direct executives' efforts on optimizing the longer term, which should focus their attention to factors usually associated with socially responsible executives. This article explores the association between long-term compensation and corporate social responsibility (CSR) for 90 publicly traded Canadian companies. The findings suggest that executives' long-term compensation is associated with a firm's environmental actions and reducing product/environment weaknesses.
