Abstract:The impact of structural reform (here as: s.r.) on firm exports is analyzed. It is argued that s.r. generates new opportunities and reduces transaction costs, inducing firms to improve their efficiency and competitiveness to international levels. It is proposed that not all companies benefit equally, for firms differ in how s.r. affects their competitiveness. It is found that s.r. induces firms to export, and it seems to have the highest positive impact on the exports of subsidiaries of foreign firms. S.r. seems to have a negative impact on the exports of domestic state-owned firms. The research contributes to a better understanding of how changes in institutions affect firm behavior.
