Abstract:With internal corporate venturing, companies operating in mature markets are able to create radical innovations and not only incremental innovations. The article presents a case study of a large chemical firm, Evonik Degussa, and their commercialization of nanomaterials technology. The goal is to reveal the successful organizational design and management strategies in radical innovations. The study shows that incumbation from risk-adverse culture, long timelines for evaluation and high-level steering committee are organizational strategies that boost the success in Evonik Degussa. Productive managerial strategies include focus on product development, risk reduction and active risk management.
