| Abstract: | The French state-controlled group is making massive progress towards its objective of becoming one of the top five chemical manufacturers in the world. Its chairman J. R. Fourtou came to the industry from outside. It was a key issue how to build Rhone-Poulenc in the USA. The organization has seen novel shapes developing as acquisition brought about ever more strategic business units. The company is extremely conscious of safety and the environment, promoted by an innovative orientation committee. Fourtou is the inspirational team leader whose main responsibility is the culture of the company and attitudes of its people. Not even its strategy rates higher priority than these two. |
