Abstract: | The factors contributing to the over-representation of men in senior positions in nursing are investigated in this paper. A questionnaire study for a sample of 1536 registered nurses was carried out in New South Wales, Australia. Multiple logistic regressions were used to analyze the data and it was shown that women's greater likelihood of taking breaks from full-time employment was the major variable contributing to the gender segmentation of the nursing workforce. |
