Abstract: | Manufacturing and merchandising companies incur inventory carrying loss more than 10 % of sales. A major component of costs is attributable to increases in work-in-process inventories that stem from manufacturing interruptions caused by machine breakdowns and scheduled off-times. Such disruptions also make production lead time more variable and consequently increase required safety to customer orders. A single server, first-come, first-served queuing system is developed which alternates between periods when service is available or not. |
