Abstract: | In a world of highly distributed PC power, complex networks, and database systems, risk has become a third factor in the IS equation. A large variety of risks is identified in relation to software bugs, network viruses, systems failures, computer crime etc. Overall vulnerability awareness is rapidly growing. It is shown by a number of examples how corporations are beginning to respond to this new challenge. Many of them adopt a technological and a business risk philosophy. The responsibility of higher-level management is stressed. Vulnerabilities are dependent on the corporate IS strategy, and on corporate links with external technological systems. |
