Abstract:Licence-fee is no longer the only way of financing advertisement-free TV. Subscription and pay-per-view services have caught on in the U.S., where 25% of homes are tuning in to paying stations. France's Canal Plus being highly successful, pay-TV is seen as the main element in Europe's broadcasting future. Pay channels seem to pose a threat to the established national broadcasters. British government is interested in subscription and pay-per-view as a method of financing TV.
