Abstract:The interface between the academic advisory economists and the political actor comes to appear highly significant. This paper examines the case of antitrust economics, in which government economists are exhorted to remain academically engaged in order to their advices will be undisturbed by political pressures. Weber's concept of a vocation is extracted to explore this tension between commitment to scientific analysis and commitment to towards governmental patrons.
