| Abstract: | Relying on financial and industrial economics, the present paper tries to clarify if shareholding by banks in business firms has anticompetitive effects in the non-bank sector. The authors show that industrial ownership is in the interest of the industrialists rather than of the bankers. Allowing shareholding by banks may increase rather than diminish efficiency. |
