Abstract:The United Kingdom Government holds large amounts of business information much of which is provided by the private sector. With a growing commitment to Open Government there is increasing pressure to make this information available to the public. This article examines foreign government experience in protecting business information from disclosure. It looks at the variuos definitions of exempt business information, reasons for non-disclosure, procedures for consulting with third parties and rights of appeal to review bodies.
