Abstract: | This paper provides information about the current state of performance management (hereafter as: P-M.) appraisal from a sample of UK-based European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) affiliated organizations. It is focused on several critical issues of P-M. in the context of total quality management (TQM) including: the effectiveness of TQM programmes, the rationale for P-M., degree of internal consistency btw. TQM assumptions and P-M. systems, and the relationship among P-M., effectiveness of TQM programmes, employee satisfaction and overall organizational performance. The paper explains how a successful TQM strategy requires a rethinking and changing the organization's P-M. system. |
