| Abstract: | China's re-entry into GATT will inevitably bring a great shock to China's industries to suffer from import competition due to reducing tariffs by a big margin. But at the same time, it will cause trade deficit which will result in the falling of RMB's exchange rate, thus offsetting the shock caused by the tariff concession. As a result, the industries to suffer from import competition will be protected and the government's tax revenue stabilized. |
