Abstract: | This article examines the trilemma of the EU concerning three fundamental principles: free movement of services and labour; non-discrimination and equal treatment, and the rights of association and industrial action. It is argued that the supremacy of free movement over basic social rights is leading Europe in a politically and socially unsustainable direction. The politicians have to rethink the governance of the European project. They should make sure that the cross-border service workers in Europe have the same rights and standards as other workers in the emerging pan-European labour market. |
