Abstract:The city of Zhanjiang tends to become a heavy industry base of southern China with the advantage of 18 berths ranging from 10000 to 50000 tons, water 27 meters in depth 300 meters from the beach in the northeast island, which can holds large ships from 20000 tons to 30000 tons. If the channel to sea is widened a little bit, cargo ships with the weight of 15000 tons can sail through. In view of the domestic and foreign market demands, the five provinces in the south will export steel materials over 11000000 tons by 2000. Presently HongKong and southeast Asian areas have imported over 10000000 tons for steel materials. Thus steel industry promotes the development of building ships, automobiles, engineering , etc.
