| Abstract: | Dealing in fast growing Asian market can be problematic for foreign banks, although growth rates have been strong. There has been some turbulence in financial sector, and analysts have sounded warnings about banks' exposure to property for example in Malaysia and Philippines. Year 1997 listing shows that 106 banks from countries outside Asia have operations in the 13 Asian countries covered in the listing. The countries with highest number of foreign bank operations are Hongkong and Singapore. The most of the foreign banks in Asia originate from countries in European Union and USA. |
