Abstract:The article examines the claim that deeper dialogues are needed between tourism and economic geography, because tourism scholars are provided with theoretical opportunities by progress in economic geography. In the context of a study conducted in Cyprus, the article discusses how the concept of innovation is understood by academics and industry stakeholders in marketing the island destination. The authors argue for a more rational determination of the limits to which geography can contribute to studies of tourism marketing and distribution.
