| Abstract: | After an analysis of unit prices of people's consumer goods by arrangement, it is found that the consumption fault is at a range of between 15,000 and 50, 000 yuan and the people of wager earner stratum have consumed few goods in that range. As a result, the upgrading and updating of consumer goods are hindered and an irrational consumption structure brought about. In 1995, the Engel coefficient of urban residents was 49 while that of rural residents was 50.5. Besides, the fault leads to the too high saving rate and declining trend of overall consumption as well as irrational industrial structure and lack of new driving force for economic development. To solve the problems, we should take such measures as accelerating the reform of housing system, promoting the reforms in education, social security and medical system, etc. |
