Abstract:Business strategies' market and nonmarket components are interrelated and must be integrated for effectiveness. In situations involving international trade firms have rights to initiate trade actions that may lead to negotiations between the countries involved. This paper presents a model that generates concessions in equilibrium because the two governments enter into negotiations to resolve the dispute. If the threat of US sanctions is not credible, no negotiations nor concessions result. In the model market and nonmarket strategies are integrated in a formal theory of the resolution of trade disputes and the subsequent effects on market competition.
