| Abstract: | The new strategy of the Broken Hill Proprietary Company Ltd is discussed. External factors influencing the position of the firm are described. The company needed to become market-driven, decentralized and expanded to compete internationally. Survey results about the organizational culture are presented. The expected change process is outlined. The role of the top management is highlighted. Lessons from the experience are summarized. Supporting systems and management style are discussed. Resistance to change is mentioned as an important factor. Creating integrated business units is found to be an essential action. |
