Abstract:The concept of core strategy as one key to the success of some restructured businesses is developed. Also discussed are themes that emerge from the restructuring process and implications for management and society. It is stated that firms with core strategies will be more successful than less-focused firms and developing core strategies requires more strategic focus than other strategies. In firms with core strategies there is a product/process and customer orientation. Restructurings that result in core strategies will bring with them major power shifts. Core strategy calls for a long-term decision making perspective and has an impact on the investment process. Finally the question of degree of complexity and diversity is discussed.
