Abstract:Two contrasting approaches to the growth of enterprises are presented. One of these approaches focuses on conventional internal development and the other on the development of a company through the active utilization of external resources such as mergers and acquisition of enterprises (M and A). The current development of these approaches to company growth as well as the corporation's strategic and organizational tasks related to these developmental changes are analysed. It is pointed out that M and A by Japanese companies needs to be further popularized in the future and that such popularization will require not only a simple change of strategy, but a new type of organizational theory as well.
