| Abstract: | As defined by the Single European Act of 1986, the EU's internal market is "an area without internal frontiers in which the free movement of goods, persons, services and capital is ensured in accordance with the provisions of this treaty." The SEA formalised the deadline already set in the Commission's 1985 white paper of completing the internal market by December 31, 1992. The free movement of goods within the European Union is an essential component of the single market. |
