Abstract:The identification of fallacies in both the professional and personal environment is discussed. Several commonly encountered fallacies are briefly described and examples are included (e.g. appeal to force, appeal to pity, hasty generalization, genetic fallacy, circumstantial ad hominem, false cause). After the fallacies have been identified, three specific tools available for dealing with fallacies are examined (the Scientific Method, aking why, and the use of six key phrases). They need to be adapted to work for the particular situation. If the tools are adapted and utilised, you will have a strong chance of minimizing aggravation owing to arguments based on fallacies.
