| Abstract: | A year ago Ecstasy was not known in Asia. Now it is sweeping across the region. Can it be controlled? It's too soon to tell. Is it dangerous? Probably. You didn't have to wear gold lame ore sequins to get into the dance party at Portico in Hong Kong on a steamy night late in August. But it helped. The dress code was glamour circa 1988, and the bouncers sent the unsuitable to the back of the line. For those who got the nod, the action inside was nonstop. From midnight until well past sunrise, the crowd of 400 danced shoulder to shoulder , hip to hip, to music with a beat so driving it became hypnotic. This was Ecstasy at work. |
