Abstract:The business benefits of ensuring that staff have time for a fulfilling life outside work -- and the hidden costs of "presenteeism" -- are rising up the HR agenda. In the UK's first Work-Life Balance Week, the author described how some firms are calling time on the long-hours culture. Last December a board meeting at pharmaceuticals giant Glaxo Wellcome UK had to be rescheduled at the last minute because two people could attend only part of it.
