Abstract:This research examines the association between attitudes on cheating and cognitive moral development. The research instruments include Rest's Defining Issues Test, the Attitudes on Honesty Scale (developed by the authors) and Academic Integrity Index (developed by the authors). Study participants were psychology majors and business majors. The authors have used factor analysis and logistic regression to analyse collected data. Research findings indicate that instructors need to include wording to the effect that research papers must be done independently and that using papers from outside sources is prohibited. The findings also suggest that schools should adopt honor codes and that using the same examination each semester encourages cheating.
