| Abstract: | A particular production planning problem gives rise to a knapsack problem with generalized upper bounds. The efficient solution of this problem is based on approximations and reductions. The proposed methodology has general applicability regardless to the concrete application. Some historical notes are given. Some numerical examples are displayed to help understanding. |
