Abstract:Altough the heavy recession of the British economy beginning in the summer of 1990 is over since a year, the economy stagnates since then in spite of the stimulating measures of the economic policy. The lowering of the interest rates resolved by the central bank stopped the drop of domestic demand, but it was not enough to cause an upward trend. Since foreign demand remained nearly the same too, unemployment rose further. Recently, stability measures, lowering of the interest rates and prosperity in the USA improve the conditions for the British economy. GDP is expected to be a slightly higher than in the previous year, but for 1993 a stronger growth is expected.
