Abstract:By the end of the first half of the year 1995, the accumulative Japanese investments on the mainland of China total up to 110 thousand projects, the contract charges up to 16300 million US dollars, actual utilization amount up to 8600 million US dollars. The Japanese investments are centralized in the manufacturing industry with the focus on such labor intensive industries as food-processing and clothing industries. The Japanese investments on the Chinese mainland are characteristic of centering upon "ensuring industrial bases for export goods". The investments are mainly orientated to the coastal areas. Recently some changes have occurred in the direct Japanese investments, the multiple invested in industries for instance.
